Through Waste to Ruin (play video)

The title of our installation forms an important part of our project. It will be placed on a gate made of waste, inspired by the gate at Auschwitz—“Work Sets You Free”; the inscription is at the entrance to the aforementioned concentration camp, and we decided to draw on this theme. We know that after entering the camp through this gate, certain death awaited people, sometimes quickly and sometimes slowly. We decided to transfer this symbolism into our work as well, thus pointing to a current problem in society that many people ignore. Through our work, we draw attention to the fact that waste is slowly becoming our ruin, and it is only a matter of time how long it will take before it destroys us.

Our group agreed that for every lesson we would bring clean waste (especially plastics) produced by our families, and this is exactly what we use to create this work.

We began by modeling the inscription on the gate, for which we used aluminum waste from an advertising agency, and we are gradually moving on to processing plastic bottles and plastic bags.

The load-bearing part of the gate will be made from artistically transformed bottles, and from the plastic bags we will make birds, which are a symbol of transformation and hope for our polluted planet.
